Tips for Cutting, Punching & Masking
Use an emery board to smooth cardstock edges when uneven or if they have
little 'strings' on them. File the edges lightly to smooth. by Julie

When using corner scissors (like Fiskars), note that you get different cuts
depending on which side of the scissors are facing you. Make sure they are
turned the correct way before you cut. Also, I have found that I get more
consistently even corners if I insert the paper or c/s in the correct side, then
turn the scissors over to cut. You are better able to see how the cut will align
with the corner. Just remember to turn them back over before you insert the next

When cutting out a detailed image, the best pair of
scissors to use are small sewing or cuticle scissors which have a curved blade.
I learned this from doing decoupage. When cutting, turn the paper, not the
scissors. by Julie Warner
When cutting a mask for an image, stamp it in dye ink on a
scrap piece of paper like copy paper or post it notes. Cut the image out on or
just inside the line. This way you won't get the ghost around the image you are
masking. Also, stack two or three pieces of this paper together with
repositionable glue or tape then cut the mask out. This way, you have several
masks and only have to cut once. by Julie Warner
Turn large punches over when you want to position images
correctly. This allows you to see what your punch out will look like.
