Shaving Cream Backgrounds - Written
by Denyse Duhaime
Card made by

This
is a great way to make your own specialty paper.
First you should gather the equipment you will need for this project.
Card
Stock, shipping tags, glossy paper (you may like some of each)
Old Cookie Sheet
Shaving Cream
Reinkers ( assorted colors of dye inks)
Spatula
Paper towels
Wooden spoon, or popsicle stick
Now
you have gathered everything you need, lets get started.
Place your old cookie sheet or other suitable container on a flat
surface. Spray the shaving cream
into the container.
Then
spread out the shaving cream around the container, similar to frosting the top
of a cake. It does not have to be
totally smooth.
Using
a dye ink reinker, drop small amounts of ink onto the top of the shaving cream.
Do this in several places. Now
switch colors and add another color that you think will complement the first
color you used. You can use as many colors as you like. Personally, I think that two colors often make a wonderful
background, but experiment, as you may like several colors.
Next
you want to swirl the inks together.
You will create a marble effect. To
achieve this, use a wooden spoon or a popsicle stick. Take the wooden stick and
move it through the shaving cream picking up one color and swirling it into the
other color and continue in this manner until you have a swirling design that is
pleasing to you. The thicker the
stick you use the wider spread of color you will have.
You are now ready to color your card stock or papers.
Take
the paper you have chosen and place it on top of the shaving cream.
Gently press down on the paper. Then
remove the paper from the shaving cream. Put
the paper face up on a flat surface. You
have two options at this point. You
can make another piece of paper, but putting a second piece of paper on top of
the paper you just removed from the shaving cream, press gently again and remove
the second paper and place that on a flat surface as well.
You
now will need to scrape off the shaving cream from the paper (or from both
papers if you made a second piece). Do
to this, use the spatula. When you
have removed most of the shaving cream, use a paper towel to remove the excess
cream. Set aside and let your paper
dry. Then you can stamp on your
wonderful new background paper.
You
can make many background papers from this same batch of shaving cream.
You also can add another color of ink for a totally new effect.
Each paper you make will have a different look and pattern.
For a new idea, try doing this with your shipping tags.
Have
fun!
