Faux Heat Colors for Metal Foil & Tape
by Jenna Roby
- Copper tooling foil or copper foil edging tape
- StazOn permanent inks
- Cotton balls
- Scotch tape
- Scrap paper
- Scissors
- Disposable gloves (For if you don’t like having
inky fingers for days on end. <LOL>)
1)
Use the scotch tape to secure strips of the copper tape (or just hold the
edges of the copper foil) on a large piece of scrap paper.
2)
Put on the gloves & use the cotton balls to apply overlapping rainbow
bands of the permanent inks on the copper tape or the copper piece. Let dry.
3)
You can stamp an image on the foil before or after you color the piece.
Let dry completely before you proceed to embossing the metal.
Copper tape is made out of a Mylar type material that melts
if you apply heat. This technique lets you have the colors on the metal w/o
using heat. It is also good for when you don’t have a mini torch handy. Please
use solvent based permanent inks in a well ventilated area!
