Brayer Resist
by Jenna Roby
- Solid or minimal detail rubber stamps
- Glossy card stock
- Versamark Watermark ink pad
- Rubber brayer
- Rainbow dye ink pad
- Scrap paper
1)
Stamp the image using the Versamark ink on the glossy card stock. Let dry
completely! (You can use a heat tool or blow dryer to speed up the drying time,
but if the ink isn’t dry when you do the next step the “resist” images can smear
and won’t resist the dye ink as well.)
2)
Cover your work area with several sheets of scrap paper.
3)
Ink up the brayer by rolling it across the rainbow pad several times in
as close as the same position as possible. (Avoid moving the brayer from side to
side.)
4)
Starting with the brayer just off the glossy card stock, roll the brayer
back & forth across the same section of the card stock, going off the edges and
not stopping in the middle anywhere. (If you stop in the middle of the piece,
you will get lines they do not go away!) For BEST results, roll in smooth full
stokes off the edges of the card stock.
5)
Repeat step 4 until the whole piece is covered with bars of vibrant
color. Let dry.
Try not to touch the front of the glossy card stock with
your fingertips as much as possible while cutting, stamping or brayering. Handle
the piece by the edges. Oils from your skin will leave “resist” finger prints on
your finished piece.
