Twist
Away Technique
Instructor:
Sue Wisniewski
This
is a technique that I saw a three minute, yes only three minute demo when I was
on vacation in Florida a few years ago. I came home and wrote down what I
remember then put my “twist” on the technique. At this quick demo she
stated you could only use this certain stamp and only the inks she used
well…..that just doesn't sit with me. I found that you could
use just about any image it just changes the look & feel of the background.
Now when it came to the inks again different inks give a different look. I
have done it on different color cardstocks and even glossy, yes glossy.
Dark cardstocks give a dramatic effect and glossy gives a very bold look.
Another thing to take into consideration is your choice of stamp image to use
with this technique. What I have found is less detail is better. When
trying this technique with a bold image I seemed to get too much color, or blobs
of color, and that was not the effect I wanted to achieve. Different images like
a flower stamp, fleur de lis, or different background stamps will all produce
interesting results.
Faster drying pigment inks seem to work better on the dark colored cardstocks
with this technique because you are layering colors on top of each other. The
dye inks just naturally work better on the slippery surface of the glossy
cardstock, but now with Brilliance pigment inks that dry on glossy, we don’t
have to use just dye ink.
Inks:
Brilliance pigment ink pads – Ice Blue, silver, crimson and Opalite
Orchid Ice
Encore – all colors
Ancient Page Coal, Brilliance Black
Opalites interference ink pads
1. Ink your stamp, place lightly on cardstock and twist the
stamp to slightly blur the image. Re-ink your stamp and repeat until you get as
much color as you like on your cardstock. Repeat this process with second
color.
2. With the edge of a darker color ink pad make lines in random directions to
add dimension. Or with your darker color add smudge marks with ink pad.
3. Over stamp your twisted background with different images using gold or black
ink to add even more dimension.
4. Stamp a single image on separate cardstock and layer over the finished
background to complete your card.
