Supplies:

Horned Owl in Nest (038-004L)

About You (038-005D)

That’s Who (038-006C)

Brown permanent ink (Archival or solvent)

Liquid Appliqué in brown, gold, silver, teal, peach, & black

Black permanent marker

Stamp positioner

White tissue paper

Sm. detail paint brush

Sm. flat paint brush

Deckle edge scissors

Mixing tray (a sheet of wax paper will work for this #8)

Heat tool

Ivory Card stock, one piece cut ½” larger than owl image on all sides

Dark green card stock, one piece 5.25 x 4”

Tan card stock, cut to 5.5 x 4.25” finished card size.

Adhesive of choice

 1)      Stamp owl using brown ink onto ivory card stock.

2)      Stamp owl using brown ink onto tissue paper using the stamp positioner.

3)      Mix a small (think Gum Ball) teal Liquid Appliqué with a few drops of gold LA in tray and paint the ivy leaves using the detail brush. Let dry.

4)      Mix a medium (1 ½ Gum Balls) amount of brown LA with a few drops of silver LA in tray and paint dark areas of owl (top of head & neck) with the detail brush and the bark of the tree with the flat brush. Let dry.

5)      Paint the owl’s eyes with gold LA. Let dry.

6)      Mix a small amount of brown LA with a small amount of gold LA and a few drops of peach LA in tray. Use the detail brush to paint the owl’s face and the lower area of the exposed wood and the flat brush to paint the upper area of the exposed wood. Let dry.

7)      Paint the shadow behind the owl’s head with black LA. Let dry.

8)      For “best” results let piece dry over night.

9)      Heat painted image with heat tool until all areas have puffed up, focus heat on the bark for an additional minute or so to raise the paint to a lumpy texture.

10)  Place the stamped tissue over the image aligning the stamped image with the painted one. Place the postitioner at the corner of the tissue. Remove the tissue and stamp the Owl, inked in brown, over the puffed paint. Press hard to get the image thoroughly onto the uneven painted surface. Let dry.

11)  Use the black marker to color in the owl’s pupils.

12)  Tear the edges of the ivory card stock and then drag the edges across the brown ink pad.

13)  Deckle cut the edges of the dark green card stock.

14)  Ink the tree bark on the top portion of the owl stamp and stamp in the upper left corner. Re-ink and stamp again to the right of the previous image. Continue across the top of the card, re-inking before each image.

15)  Stamp the bark in brown down the sides and across the bottom of the card.

16)  Mount the painted owl onto the upper center of the dark green card stock.

17)  Stamp the About You phrase onto the lower right corner of the dark green card stock.

18)  Mount the dark green card stock centered onto the stamped tan card.

19)  Stamp the That’s Who phrase on the inside of the card.

TA DA! You have a card to thrill both the eyes and the finger tips. - Jenna
