*You may want to “practice” the folding part on scrap paper
before starting this project. The folds must be measured & folded correctly for
the box to open & close smoothly and so it will lie flat when closed. Neatness
counts!
1)
Fold the copy paper in half with the fold parallel to the short side.
(fold 1)
2)
Unfold & fold the paper in half with the fold parallel to the long side.
Unfold. The paper should have a fold “cross” in the middle. (fold 2)
3)
With a long side towards you, fold both long sides to the middle and use
the bone folder to crease the new folds. (folds 3 & 4)
4)
Turn the paper so that a short side is towards you. Measure up 2” from
the center fold and fold the top down (towards you) on this mark. Crease the new
fold line. Unfold. (fold 5)
5)
Repeat step 4 for the bottom half. (fold 6)
6)
Turn the paper over & measure up 2” from the new fold line and fold the
top part to the back along this new fold. Crease & unfold. (fold 7)
7)
Repeat step 6 for the bottom half. The paper should look like it has an
8” square with two 1 ¼” flaps on the short ends (fold 8)
8)
Turn the paper over & match up two opposing corners using the last 2 fold
lines (7 & 8) as the corner points. Fold on the diagonal & crease. Unfold.
9)
Repeat step 8 for the other two corners.
10)
Turn the paper over & fold a corner point used in the last 2 steps to the
center. Crease.
11)
Repeat step 10 for the other three corners.
12)
Turn the paper over & fold up the unflapped sides of the box along folds
3 & 4.
13)
Keeping the first 2 sides up, fold up the side along fold 5.
14)
You should have a triangle “wing” with some flap at each corner. Fold the
two “wings” against the side with the flap.
15)
Fold the flap down to the outside over the triangles and crease.
16)
Repeat steps 13, 14 & 15 on the other end using fold 4. You should have
an open box with 1 ¼” x 4” flaps on opposite sides of the box.
17)
Unfold the box and stamp the Wallpaper image using the rainbow pad on the
outside of the box. (This is the back of the paper from the side where the
beginning folds where made.) You don’t need to stamp the bottom, but you will
want to stamp the wings & flaps. Set aside.
18)
Stamp the Jester using the black ink on the 2 ½” x 3” piece of glossy
card stock. Let dry.
19)
Stamp the Old Tricks phrase near the top center of the 4” x 4” piece of
glossy card stock using the black ink. Let dry.
20)
Stamp the Laugh Often phrase twice on each 1” x 4” piece of glossy card
stock using the black ink. Let dry.
21)
Stamp the Wallpaper image using the rainbow ink on the 4” x 4” glossy
card stock stamping over the phrase. Let dry.
22)
Color the Jester using the markers. Let dry.
23)
Use the glitter glue to highlight the bells on the Jester’s hat, shoe &
scepter. Let dry.
24)
Use the corner rounder on all four corners of the 4 ¼” x 4 ¼” piece of
magenta card stock.
25)
Use the corner rounder on two corners on the long side of both strips of
1 ½” x 4 ¼” magenta card stock.
26)
Adhere the white strips to the magenta strips so that the corners of the
white just touch the rounded corners of the magenta.
27)
Refold the box and push in the angled folds on the un-flapped sides so
that the box folds flat with the 2 flaps on top.
28)
Adhere the layered strips to the flaps so that the short edges go past
the short edges of the flaps & so the inside edges of the layered pieces just
touch in the middle. Trim any white copy paper that sticks out.
29)
Fold one flap over to expose the underside. Pull the 2 folded pieces out.
Adhere back into place.
30)
Repeat for the other end.
31)
Cut out the Jester and adhere to the 4 x 4 glossy card stock, using the
foam bits, under the phrase.
32)
Place the Jester piece inside the open box so the Jester is parallel to
the flaps.
TA DA! A nifty card to cheer a friend. ~ Jenna
