“Howling Wolf”
leather tag w/embossed bead
Supplies:
Howling Wolf stamp (892-103G)
Liquid Appliqué in silver, black & white
Black Archival ink
Versamark clear pigment ink
Embossing powder enamels in clear, silver & pearl white
Paint brush
Heat tool
Long tweezers
Eyelet setting tools
White star eyelet w/ 1/8” hole
Black leather tag
Black leather cord (about 9”)
Unpainted/varnished wooden bead w/hole large enough to fit over doubled leather
cord
1)
Paint a 1/16” thick layer of silver Liquid Appliqué using the paint
brush on the leather tag leaving a border of leather showing.
2)
Highlight/shadow the silver LA using the paint brush and the black &
white LA. I tried to place the lighter and darker paints where they would be
under the final image, but didn’t worry about being exact.
3)
Set the tag aside to dry at least 8 hour or over night.
4)
Place the wooden bead over the tips of the tweezers.
5)
Roll the bead on the black ink pad until no wood color shows on the
outside of the bead. Take the bead off the tweezers and tap the ends on the ink
pad. Place the bead back on the tweezers and use the heat tool to speed drying.
6)
Roll the bead on the Versamark pad until the bead is covered with the
clear ink. Don’t worry about inking the holes.
7)
Roll the wet bead in the clear embossing powder and then melt the powder
using the heat tool.
8)
As soon as all the powder has melted, roll the bead in the clear powder
again and continue heating. Repeat once more.
9)
While the clear enamel is still hot, use your fingers to sprinkle tiny
amounts of the silver & pearl white embossing powders all around the bead.
(A little goes a long way! You can always add more if desired.) Heat until
smooth, rotating the tweezers to keep the hot liquid embossing enamel from
oozing to the bottom, leaving an unattractive bump.
10)
Add one more layer of clear powder; Heat until smooth, rotating the
tweezers.
11)
Continue rotating the tweezers for a minute or so after you’ve turned
off the heat tool until the enamel no longer flows around the bead. Prop the
tweezers up so the bead touches nothing and allow the bead to cool completely
before handling. (If you get finger prints or other marks embedded on the
surface, just reheat the spot until smooth and make sure nothing touches the
bead before it is totally cool.)
12)
After the LA paint has dried, use the heat tool to puff up the paint on
the tag.
13)
Stamp the wolf image using the black ink. Press hard to get the full
image on the textured LA. Let dry.
14)
Punch a 1/8” hole in the top of the tag using the eyelet tools.
15)
Set the star eyelet using the eyelet tools.
16)
Slide the leather cord thru’ the hole in the eyelet and match up the
ends.
17)
Slide the enameled bead over both ends of the cord and down to the top of
the tag.
18)
Tie the cord ends in an overhand knot and work it down to the top of the
bead.
TA DA! You now have a nifty tag that you can grace a
gift with and/or use as a bookmark. ~ Jenna
