“Butterfly” card
Supplies:
Fancy Butterfly (002-004I)
Pansy (063-001I)
Black solvent ink
Watercolor markers in black, orchid, green, & golden
yellow
Fine glitter in blue, purple, & gold
Clear acetate, one piece 4 x 2.5”
Glossy card stock, one 5.25 x 4” piece and one 2 x 2”
piece
Black card stock, one piece cut to 5.5 x 4.25 finished card
size and one 2 x 2” piece
Craft glue that dries clear & a toothpick
2 pieces of dimensional foam
1 3/8” & 1 ¼” circle punches
Scissors (I find the small bladed type work well for detail
cutting)
Large sticky notes or repositionable adhesive
Anti-static pouch
Adhesive of choice
1)
Stamp butterfly onto acetate using solvent ink. Let dry.
2)
Stamp pansy using black solvent ink onto larger glossy card stock in
lower left corner, stamping off the edge.
3)
Stamp pansy without re-inking onto a sticky note placing as much of the
image on the area of paper with the sticky under it. Cut out the image as
closely as possible. Place over the dry stamped image on the glossy card stock.
4)
If the ink on the acetate is dry, dust with anti-static pouch on the
inked side, then apply glue using tooth pick to the areas to get gold glitter.
Sprinkle gold glitter over glue. Tap excess glitter onto a scrap paper and pour
into container and set image aside to dry.
5)
Stamp another pansy in the lower right corner and make a mask & apply
the same as before.
6)
Stamp a third pansy between the other 2 and higher up and stamping over
the masks of the other 2 pansies, then make a mask and apply as before.
7)
Check glue, when dry it should lie flat. If the glue is still wet, go
stamp another pansy in the upper left corner over the masks of the previously
stamped pansies then make and apply a mask as before. Check the glue again.
8)
Apply glue using the tooth pick to the areas on the left wing to get
purple glitter. Sprinkle glitter on left wing onto scrap paper and pour into
container.
9)
Repeat for right wing. Set aside to dry.
10)
Stamp the 5th pansy in the upper right corner. This one
doesn’t need a mask.
11)
Check the glue, if dry; apply glue the body of the butterfly between the
bands of gold glitter. Sprinkle glitter over body and tap off excess. Repeat
with one wing and then the other. Set aside to dry.
12)
Choose a specific pansy flower and ink only the area of that flower and
maybe 1” around it.
13)
Place 2” piece of glossy card stock, glossy side down, onto ink image.
14)
Place a sheet of scrap paper over inked stamp with card stock and gently
press card stock into the image. Remove the scrap paper. Remove the card stock
carefully to avoid smudging. Let dry.
15)
Color small pansy image with colored markers.
16)
Color back ground behind pansies with black marker, using starting at one
short side and working your way carefully across the piece to avoid tracking
black ink into the flowers.
17)
Place colored pansy onto a piece of scrap paper and slide into the 1 ¼”
circle punch until you have it place where it looks best. Punch.
18)
Punch the 2” piece of black card stock onto a scrap paper and punch
with 1 3/8” circle punch.
19)
Mount colored pansy onto black circle.
20)
Position layer piece onto back ground until the images line up, adhere.
21)
Mount back ground to black foundation.
22)
Use scissors to cut out dry butterfly leaving a 1/8” border all around,
including the antenna.
23)
Mount using dimensional foam under wings.
TA DA! You now have card that looks so great it was
worth the time spent. ~ Jenna
